Arresting by OtisFrampton Arresting by OtisFrampton
This is a digital commission featuring the arrest of Chancellor Palpatine by a group of bumbling Jedi (who, frankly, deserve what they get for being so incompetent).

The original line art measures 7 1/2 x 14 inches and was drawn on Bristol using Micron pens. The final artwork was colored in Photoshop CS4 using a Wacom Cintiq 21UX.

You can watch a recording of me coloring this piece on my Ustream channel here [link] and here [link]

so its treason then!

the stupidest part is that they were supposedly some of the best on the council and that Palpatine's skill was just so supreme that he wiped the floor with them but all the movie made it look like is "Oh shit maybe we shouldn't be standing shoulder to shoulder while a sith lord stabs us to death in a cramped and confined office!"

like they could have maybe had like 2 people go in while the others stand just outside the door? I dunno I'm not a swordsman but I do know that trying to dig my phone out in a cramped elevator is a losing battle so wielding a advanced laser sword while trying not to cut off your friend's head while a crazy politician tries to murder you has got to be really hard.

either it was to make palatine look like a overpowered badass... or outside of mace they were just that BAD

Really cool work! Palpatine's pose is awesome!
And sadly I agree on the Jedi being incompetent: I mean, all of them (but Marce) died withing 30 seconds!

Jedi dogs....dont know nothing of ruling the galaxy in Star Wars. The Sith do a better job in bringing order and peace. I like it, reminds me of the original Clone Wars series of 2003

I really enjoyed the prequels for what they are and for what they added to the Star Wars mythos, but I think some parts could have been filmed better. Like this one. Ian may not have been a good swordsman, maybe Samuel Jackson wasn't either, but they could have made this scene more believeable. It didn't look at all lik Palps beat the first three Jedi. It looked like they stood there and got cut down. Hell, they even let him wind up!

You captured the scene perfectly, however!

So True! Though I think Mace had it under control, but Anakin cheated...
Jedi-of-Shadows Featured By Owner Jul 4, 2010
You know, those jedi were so stupid. They thought only a small group of jedi was needed to stop Palpatine. You would need even more than the whole Jedi order to be able to stop him, and even then there would be tramendous losses.

I really enjoyed this moment in the film-- you've captured the point where we see Palpatine fully engaged and the Jedi have yet to cognitively respond Palpatines speed and skill.

Fast forward this frame .05 seconds and everyone but Windu will be dead...

Great effort!

I like your style ;)

What's funny is that these guys were supposed to be Jedi Masters, but one old man takes two of them down in his first few swings. Even Kit didn't last long, and they portrayed him as such a bad-ass in The Clone Wars. Were they even briefed that this guy might be an apocalyptically-powerful Sith Lord? >.<

I suppose Mace mighta won if Anakin hadn't thrown a wrench in things at the last moment; oh how different things would have been. But I guess we'll never know...

Nice pic, I like the simplistic style; especially how you did the feet under the Jedi robes. Background and color scheme looks great, very End-of-the-galaxy-as-you-know-it. Palatine looks kewl, very animal-istic like that roar/scream he makes in the movie.

Cool picture I love the style too.
But the room looks too small, or they look too big for the room they're in. Shrinking them or raising the ceiling would help - unless this is the effect you were going for. Just my opinion....
CRUMB662 Featured By Owner Jun 26, 2010
They what they deserved for underestimating the Chancellor/Darth Sidious. If the guy could hide in plain sight and not be detected that makes him a ultra bad. Windu was the only one up to the task but he trusted Skywalker to make the right decision, but the wrong one.

Envy you of the 21ux, got a 12wx myself. This piece is amazing - very energetic! Sidious is hateful while the Jedi are at peace. Fitting indeed.

Actually I was really shocked when I realised we were gonna start seeing Palpatine pracing about with a lightsabre. The original series seemed to make the older Jedis/Sith like Yoda or the Emperor disdain the weapon in favour of more powerful magic-y Force type stuff. I mean Yoda didn't even bother teaching Luke any nifty tricks with the thing (or not that the viewer saw anyway.) Didn't originally think every Jedi HAD to be a goddam genius at swordplay (do you think that grumpy librarian jedi in the Clones film can wield one with much grace or even need to in her line of Jedi work?) but as the prequels played out it seemed they WERE all gifted at swirling a lightsabre around their heads, and when ol' Palpy disposed of these guys in about 10 seconds it really did feel a bit ridiculously easy.
Now getting back to the artwork, blimmin' nice colour scheme and rendered beautifully with a slight vaseline lens type glowy effect, how do you DO that so well? Nice characterisations as always and I love the widescreen scope of it all - make it feel like I'm watching the films back on my old 4:3 telly again.

This was a moment for sure :)
That, And, when he dropped the helpless act, and screamed "UNLIMITED POWER!!!" as he cooked Windu :D
FoodMongol Featured By Owner Jun 25, 2010
This is a very cool picture, Otis. This scene in the movie disappointed me because three out of the four Jedi went down almost as soon as the blades were drawn. But as always you deliver on your notable art style :D
It was nice talking to you at Heroes a few weeks back, I'll be sure to try the layer effect tricks when I get my PC back to life.

Nice work! Four Jedi Verses one Sith... what could go wrong?! So when Mace and Palpatine face off and Palps gets his lightning reflected back at him, does his disfigurement come from the lightning or did he simply let go of his mask?!

Again, nice work!
