Well, I was saddened to see that one of the bigger pledges was canceled this past week, but I understand that circumstances can change and I appreciate the thought behind the initial offering. But...thanks to other very generous pledges, the total amount has still gone UP!

With just one week left in the "Oddly Normal 2.0" campaign, the total amount pledged is $7704.00!:

otf4com

Thanks so much to Rich, Stu, Alison, John and Riaz  for their generous pledges!

Thanks also to David for increasing his pledge amount!

And remember, if you have pledged less than $25, you have one week left to increase your pledge to get the book as a reward. There are currently 33 backers who can do this, just FYI. :)

I'll be doing some sketching for the project (working on the poster Kickstarter reward) live on my webcast tomorrow night (Wedneday) at 8PM CST: www.ustream.tv/channel/otis-fr… If you have questions about the project or just want to see me sketch characters from the book, I'll be LIVE from 8PM-9PM. Hope to see you there!

I worked on the poster reward last week on my webcast. You can watch video of it here: www.ustream.tv/recorded/201615…

Thanks again and as always, if you like this project, please share a link to the Kickstarter page via Facebook, Twitter, etc!

A couple of moths ago I posted some Big Bang Theory artwork that was meant to be used in a series of a local TV spots. Unfortunately, the series of ads got canceled, but not before two of them were completed. I have been given permission to show them off online as part of my own promotion.

Hello, again. I've decided to only do updates about the current pledge total every Monday from this point on.

Here's the current total:

otf4com

Many thanks to our newest backers . . . Tim, Jeremie, Daniel, Dan, Ben, Shervyn, Ryan, Lisa, Miroatme, Christoph, Coolb, Ong, Jessica, Shannon, James, Rachel, Danielle, Daniel, sgllama, Susan, Kathryn, Zabuni, Matt and Stephen!

And thanks to Jimi for increasing his pledge to take advantage of the new reward!

Since hitting the $6000.00 level, the most popular reward option by far has been the $25.00 level, which means that people are interested in owning a copy of the book. And that's great! I hope to get as many copies out there as possible to Kickstarter backers.

The "Oddly Normal 2.0" Kickstarter campaign has been fully funded in just one week! www.kickstarter.com/projects/o…

Thanks go out to coffinail, BKramer, Dave, Tim, Kirsten, Brad, Leandro (for raising his pledge!), Molly, Jussi, Thanun, Jamie for their generous pledges, taking the project past the original funding goal!

otf4com

And thanks once again to all of my friends, family and well wishers who supported this project with contributions. Your kindness will allow me to take time away from commission and freelance work to bring Oddly Normal back to life.

But . . .

There are still 36 days left in this campaign! I honestly thought that the Kickstarter pledge drive would be a nail-biter, one that would only achieve full funding in the last days. And that's one reason why I chose a 45 day window for the project. But you have all blown my expectations out of the water.

That's why, as I said in an earlier update, that new funding goals, with the intention of paying for a print run of the final book to be used as Kickstarter rewards would go into effect after the original goal of $5000 was reached.

And here we are, so true to my word, the new goal of $6000 has gone into effect. If $5500 or more is pledged by February 15th, everyone who pledged $50 or more will get a copy of the final book. And if $6000 or more is pledged by February 15th, everyone who pledged $25 or more will get a copy of the final book. Just to be clear . . . the final book will be in addition to the original rewards, not in place of them!

My goal has been met; I will now have time to work on the book. Now it's time to raise money toward improving the reward packages for all of you who chose to support this project (and for those who choose to contribute between now and February 14th).

Thank you all so much.

Okay, as I said in previous updates, I've been thinking about how to expand the reward options now that it looks like I may reach my original goal of raising $5000.00 in pledges.

My primary goal in starting the "Oddly Normal 2.0" Kickstarter campaign was to raise money to allow me to take time off from freelance jobs to work on a new Oddly book. But I honestly thought that if I achieved that goal it would most likely be by the skin of my teeth and via many, many small donations. Instead, it looks like I'll hit the target early and with a few large donations.

That being said, if the pledges go above and beyond the $5000.00 goal during the next 39 days, I would like to use the money to do a print-on-demand run of the finished book for certain pledge levels.

Here's a breakdown of what I had in mind:

If the campaign raises $5500.00 or more, everyone who pledged $50.00 or more will receive a signed copy of the final book with a special alternate cover (as opposed the the cover that will be used for the published version with original line art given to the person who pledged $2000.00).
And if the campaign raises $6000.00 or more, everyone who pledged $25.00 or more will receive a signed copy of the final book with a special alternate cover (as opposed the the cover that will be used for the published version with original line art given to the person who pledged $2000.00).

I would most likely print the book through ka-blam.com , a print-on-demand service I have used before. The book would be full color, manga-sized and , as stated above, with a special cover that will be used only for this version of the book.

If these "unlockable reward" levels are reached, I will no longer be creating a special printing of the first two chapters (which is the current reward for the $200 and above levels). That reward would be nullified in favor of the complete book.

I think that if I can reach those pledge totals and begin offering copies of the final book, I will be able to raise even more money in pledges, which will help to pay for the cost of rewards at all levels and give me even more time to work on the book.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on these potential unlockable rewards. Please leave a comment or send me a message on the Kickstarter campaign page: www.kickstarter.com/projects/o…

Thanks for reading.

I really didn't plan to make this many updates regarding funding totals because frankly I didn't think I'd be this far until the very end of the campaign, but . . .

After only 3 days, the "Oddly Normal 2.0" Kickstarter campaign is 80% funded with a total amount of $4015.00 in pledges!

otf4com

Big thanks go out to Ronn, Matthew, James, Manuel, Leandro, Ingrid, Dani, John, Ryan, Cynthia, Jeff, Brian, M.D., Matthew, Martha, Tivi, Paul, Sara, Stephen, Patrick, Karen, Michael, Ryan, Thomas and George for their generous pledges!

Thanks also go out to the staff of Kickstarter.com . . . yesterday they made the "Oddly Normal 2.0" campaign a "Staff Pick" and today the project was featured on the main page! I really appreciate the exposure this has given the campaign!

As I near my funding goal so early in the campaign (41 days to go), I've started to consider the possibility of exceeding my expectations and raising more funds than I anticipated. I'll have more information if/when the project gets to that point, but just know that it I raise more money that I intended that I will add or modify reward options to reflect it.

I am currently offering the following options for ordering commissions and original artwork from me:

• Big Fat Digital Commissions: A single character, digitally-colored 7.5"x14" piece for $150 (You will receive a high-resolution digital file of the final colored piece). The piece can include text upon request. Add $25 for each additional character.

I will never use Digital Commission images as prints/posters to be sold or in any other way distribute the high resolution files for reproduction. Only the buyer of the Digital Commission and myself will ever have access or permission to print or make copies of the final image. This policy serves to make ownership of a Digital Commission unique to the buyer in the same way that a traditional ink & marker drawing would be. I will only use low-res versions of the final images for online promotion to encourage further sales and as samples in my general art portfolio.

Here are my most recent Big Fat Digital Commissions:

Elementary by OtisFrampton The Wraith and The Maiden by OtisFrampton Rancorous by OtisFrampton

• Big Tall Digital Commissions: New! A single character, digitally-colored 11"x17" piece for $150 (You will receive a high-resolution digital file of the final colored piece). The piece can include text upon request. Add $25 for each additional character. This format is ideal for poster or comic book cover style images.

Here are my most recent Big Tall Digital Commissions:

Inferno by OtisFrampton Mission and Zaalbar by OtisFrampton

• Standard Sized Digital Commissions: New! A single character, digitally-colored 8.5"x11" (tall) piece for $75 (You will receive a high-resolution digital file of the final colored piece). These commissions will feature single characters with an abstract/color background. No scenes and no text. Here are a couple of samples of my Standard Sized Digital Commissions:

Mauled by OtisFrampton The Inner Light by OtisFrampton

• 9"x12" Pen & Marker Commissions: An original, full-color piece of artwork featuring one character drawn on 9"x12" Bristol with Micron pens and Prismacolor markers (and sometimes watercolor) for $100. Add $25 for each additional character. Here are a couple of my most recent Pen & Marker Commissions:

Avenging by OtisFrampton Rematch by OtisFrampton

Note: For both traditional and digital commissions, I will be working on 3 commissions per week. I will be taking one month's worth of orders at a time and placing subsequent requests on a waiting list. This means that you will only be charged when I am ready to put you on my schedule and no one will have to wait more than one month for an order to be completed. I will complete each order live on my artcast so that the buyer can see some of their commission being created.

• Big Fat Sketch Cards: These wide-format cards are available through special sales that I announce through my website. The next sale starts on May 8th, 2010.

• 7-7-Sunday Commissions Drawn Live: Every Sunday night at 9PM EST I offer these commissions for purchase via my artcast. Go HERE for more information! Go HERE to view the 7-7-Sunday gallery!

I now offer free downloads of digital/mobile versions of Escape From Planet Nowhere for viewing on the iPad! There are two different versions:

    * A ZIP archive containing the files necessary for reading Escape From Planet Nowhere via the ComicZeal app (my favorite iPad app for reading comics).
    * A PDF for viewing in iPad apps such as Goodreader (my favorite iPad app for reading PDFs).

Go here to download the files! planet-nowhere.com/downloads/

I will be updating the two files every time I post a new page (or pages), so be sure to download and update as needed.

I am an advocate of reading comics on the iPad and I feel that these are currently the best way to read them on Apple's device. In fact, I'd rather have people read my comic on the iPad than read it on a computer screen.

I tried an ePub version of Escape From Planet Nowhere but was not happy with the results. I don't think we've scratched the surface of what is capable with regard to reading comics on iPad and I look forward to the day that a better app becomes available for taking advantage of the device's capabilities. It's time to stop thinking like we're in the print world and start thinking like multi-media content creators.

When I started doing my 7-7-Sunday artcasts, I thought it might last a couple of weeks and that would be the end of it. I had no idea if anyone would be interested in buying my convention-style head sketches off of an internet web show.

Two and a half years later, I'm still selling out every show and it shocks me every time I do. It's been an amazing ride doing these shows and I have no plans to quit doing them.

That being said . . .

I always told myself that if 7-7-Sundays ever stopped being fun, I wouldn't do them anymore. After supplies and shipping costs, I only make a few dollars off of every commission and the only reason I have kept up the Sunday night Otis Frampton Live tradition is that I genuinely enjoyed the interaction with my chatroom guests and saw it as a fun challenge to be given seven characters that I have to draw live and within a certain timeframe. For me, 7-7-Sunday was fun, and that was why I kept doing it.

But over the last month or so, I've felt frustrated while doing the shows and I've found myself just going through the motions while drawing. In other words, it stopped feeling like something I wanted to do and started feeling like something I had to do.

Now, I really have no plans to stop doing 7-7-Sunday artcasts. But I definitely feel like I need a break from them, at least for a little while. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, as they say. So, 89 7-7-Sunday artcasts in, I'm taking a break. I'm not sure how long the hiatus will last, but I know that I'll be back.

I want to thank all of my artcast viewers and everyone who ever ordered a commission during one of the Sunday shows. You guys have kept the weekly (okay, sometimes bi-weekly) event alive for the last two and a half years. If you didn't show up each time and place the orders, there wouldn't even be a show. So I thank you, and hope that when I return, you'll be there.

-Otis

I hope to see everyone in the Otis Frampton Live chat room on the day of the auction!

Note: For both traditional and digital commissions, I will be working on 3 commissions per week.

I am currently offering the following options for ordering commissions and original artwork from me:

• Big Fat Digital Commissions: A single character, digitally-colored 7.5"x14" piece for $150 (You will receive both the original line art and a high-resolution digital file of the final colored piece).

• Big Tall Digital Commissions: New! The piece can include text upon request. Add $25 for each additional character. This format is ideal for poster or comic book cover style images.
